How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs And Their Eggs With a Steamer

It is not difficult to destroy bedbugs in an apartment with ordinary steam. It is worth finding a steamer for bed bugs with a tank of at least 3.8 liters. At the same time, it is advised to avoid devices for steaming clothes and carpets. They do not reach the required temperature, which is a prerequisite for the complete destruction of bedbugs. Such disinfection is considered ineffective, it will not work to get rid of harmful insects.

To get rid of bed bugs, you first need to attach a triangular nozzle to the equipment hose. Most steam cleaners are equipped with a wide-angle nozzle for steaming upholstery and other surfaces. It makes the fight more efficient. Do not use the carpet nozzle, as the bristles may prevent the nozzle from approaching the object. In this case, the steam does not kill the bugs because it does not reach them.

Step 1. Choose the appropriate temperature

Bed bugs and their eggs die at about 121 °F and steam is released at 180°- 200 °F, so it’s definitely hot enough to kill insects. However, for the steam to be effective, it must be held for at least a few seconds. If you come across a live bug while cleaning, hold the steam over it for 30 seconds. This should be enough to kill it. After the beetle dies, use a paper towel to pick it up and throw it away.

Step 2. Steam off the surface

Fill the tank with ordinary tap water, then turn on the equipment. Begin to steam everything in the room, moving from the highest point to the lowest. This will help ensure that the bed bugs start moving down rather than up the room. Slowly move the steamer over the surface to achieve the desired result. It is worth processing at a speed of about 30 cm every 30 seconds. This ensures that the surface of the item is exposed to a sufficient amount of steam. Keep in mind that steaming is a tedious process, especially if there is a large area to be treated.

Step 3. Repeat it again

Repeat the steaming process 2-3 times a month to make sure all bed bugs are dead. It is best to repeat the next steam treatment after a few hours or the next day. But you can not wait more than a few days, because these insects multiply rapidly.
