Bed Bug Steamer: Home Processing Methods

Living in a house with bed bugs can be a nightmare, so the question of their termination immediately arises. If the bed bugs have not multiplied yet, you can try to kill these annoying creatures on your own! If there is a steam generator in the house, you should not immediately resort to chemicals – try “exposing the bugs to hot steam”, especially in the places where they hid and spread their eggs!

To achieve a good and sustainable result, first of all, you need to pay attention to the power of the steam cleaner. Only with the help of a sufficiently powerful device can you carefully process the entire area and all interior and decor items. The steam temperature should be around 100 degrees Celsius – if it is less, then the likelihood that the bug will die is lower!

Instructions for using the steam generator

If you want to kill the bugs with the steam generator, the procedure is usually the same for any device:

  1. First, you need to set up the device (set the maximum temperature. It is important to remember that bedbugs die already at a temperature of +50 C, but eggs can withstand such a temperature, so you need to set the maximum temperature at which both the insects themselves and their eggs die. Optimally set your device at +80 C with a 5% humidity);
  2. At the very beginning, it is best to process places of mass accumulation of insects (to identify them, you can use various bedbug traps). Remember that bedbugs are very fond of sleeping places and upholstered furniture. They must be processed very carefully;
  3. Treat the area near the baseboards (hot steam will force the insects to crawl out of their hiding places). Visible bedbugs are the easiest to destroy;
  4. Be sure to steam clothes, especially winter items (bugs are very fond of settling in them; it is more convenient to carry out this procedure on the street), as well as bed linen and children’s soft toys;
  5. Before treating various surfaces, find out if steam treatment is possible – if this is not the case, then you will have to use a spray or aerosol from bedbugs;
  6. The duration of exposure to one place is at least ten seconds;
  7. It is necessary to repeat the steam treatment several times (this is the only way to achieve a sustainable effect; it is best to process the area once a week until the insects completely disappear).

The indisputable advantage of this method is its absolute safety when compared with the use of chemicals. So, follow the instructions above and enjoy the result!
